The recent German wings plane crash caused by its co-pilot in French alps is a sign of psychological depression in humans. The psychological well being of a person is important not only for airlines but also it's applicable to all passenger carriers like trains, buses and to all the people who work in sensitive areas like nuclear reactors, space missions, defence and scientific laboratories, and also in armed forces.
A person’s physical health can be judged by the activity of a person but it's very difficult to estimate the psychological health. Many a time a person battling depression cannot be identified by his attitude or by external impressions. The ability to suppress the pressure in human minds is growing by the day. Living with pressure is becoming the order of the day. So we cannot assess if a person is under routine pressure or depression.
Modern day professionals are under tremendous pressure at work places and even at home. A smile on the face is quite artificial and not a symbol of happiness in today’s world. We are finding many incidents of suicides of professionals in different walks of life from a clerk to an IAS officer or a celebrity like film stars and sports persons. They are not short of money, fame or luxury but they are very much short of mental happiness or peace at their heart.
Recently Bllywood actress Deepika Padukone boldly came out to tell that world that she is one among the many people fighting depression. There is need to focus on mental health of person equally as much as physical health. There should be special training to teaching community (who themselves mostly are mentally ill now a days) on psychological testing methods, social and general psychology as compulsory subjects.
Teachers should identify the children who are sensitive and prone to depression need to be given special training and attention and a record has to be maintained of those students. Parents of those students who are suffering psychological disorders should be contacted and they have to be given counselling. The child should be recommended for counselling. Every government and private educational institution should have a psychological counsellor who should focus on the students recommended by the class teacher.
The Society should become mature and accept mental health and depression as general ill health. There should be encouragement to visit a psychological counsellor at times of depression. Government should take steps to classify people from childhood to college/university level and basing on their psychological status into grades and record their mental status also in conduct certificate with a grade so that people with intense sensitivity and pressure bound can be sent into professions which will not cause hazard to the society.
