The earlier two Tests have had their fair share of drama and intrigue as can be expected of a five-day game.

The quality of cricket was not only high but there were some gritty performances from players of both sides. In the first Test, Pakistan held on grimly for a draw and were helped in ample measure by the weather. Fading light on the final day ensured a draw for Pakistan even as England had looked set for a win.

Pakistan hit back strongly in the second Test and had the visitors on the back foot right through the game. England, who had defeated Australia to clinch the Ashes, are finding it difficult to adjust the sub continent conditions in the Middle East.

“We are preparing a sporting wicket, which both teams can enjoy playing on. It will depend on which team is better able to capitalise on the opportunities that come their way,” said Waleed Bukhatir, vice-chairman, Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

“The pleasant weather conditions of the winter too will add to the charm. I am sure that the teams will look to play competitive cricket,” he said. Waleed also added that elaborate arrangements are being made to ensure that the Test is conducted in a smooth manner.

The security too is being beefed up in coordination with the Sharjah police and top security firm of the UAE. “We are delighted to host both teams in this world record holder venue. Our priority is to make sure that the players as well as the spectators are well taken care of,” he said.

As the Sharjah cricket stadium is located in the middle of the city, it will be an added incentive for the fans to fill up the stands. Most of the Pakistani fans are sure to make a beehive to the stadium on each of the match days. (The writer is a Hyderabadi, who is based in Sharjah)
