lorrySingarayakonda (Prakasam): Ten persons died of suffocation under cement bags and three persons sustained serious injuries after a speeding lorry laden with cement bags overturned at Kalikivai village in Singarayakonda mandal in the early hours of Monday. The dead were identified as Aluru Pitchaiah, Lekkepogu Venkaiah, Nanepogu Han- ock, Amrutapudi Ramesh and Aluri Yejesh all of Elchuru in Santamaguluru mandal, Gollapogu Salmon and Kanumuri Nagabhushanam of Veerayapalem, Appikatla Narasaiah of Singanapalem of Prakasam district and Uppuluri Atchaiah of Vinnakandla village in Guntur district. One person is yet to be identified. According to police, the deceased were going to participate in a Christian congregation in Chennai. The devotees boarded the cement-laden lorry near Addanki to reach Chennai. When the lorry reached Singarayakonda, the speeding lorry went out of control and overturned. The travelling devotees sitting on the lorry were crushed under cement bags. Polic rushed to the spot and ordered for two cranes and lifted the lorry. The staff of National Highways and 108 Service removed the cement bags to retrieve the crushed bodies of the victims and sent them at RIMS, Ongole. The injured were also admitted to RIMS.
