London: A new study has revealed that parents are more likely to enjoy a stable relationship when the mother's salary is at least 20 per cent higher than her partner's.
The British and German research showed that married couples also stayed together longer than those who decided against walking down the aisle, Metro.co.uk reported.
The study found that the risk of unmarried couples splitting up where the mother earned more than the father was 60 per cent less than for couples where the dad brought more cash home.
Dr Shireen Kanji, from the University of Leicester School, said the study showed that equal earning, and a mother being a main earner, are not destabilising influences on relationships, even at an intense time of childcare responsibilities.
