Samsung is releasing a slightly more budget-friendly phone: the Galaxy S10E along with the new $899 Samsung Galaxy S10 and $999 Galaxy S10 Plus. Not very surprising, following Apple’s popular release iPhone XR in late 2018, it’s heartening that Samsung isn’t pushing high-end smartphones entirely out of reach.

Both the Galaxy S10E and iPhone XR are priced at $749. (That’s actually a higher starting price than the $720 Galaxy S9 last year, which had a higher-res curved screen.) But what matter to you the design or the specs inside, both of these phones have most of the selling points of their more expensive counterparts. In both cases, there are many compromises made to achieve a lower price, but that won’t matter to you even as a phone enthusiast.

If you are ready to shell out $749 and unable to decide between Samsung and Apple, we can help you with on specs alone, the Galaxy S10E looks like a competitor. But as always, your choice of OS will possibly trump specs.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S10E VS. APPLE IPHONE XR

The Galaxy S10E runs on Android 9 Pie specifically a version with Samsung’s polished One UI on top. If you’re shifting from iOS or didn’t use a Samsung phone earlier, you may need some time to get used to, but it is reported to be the best software Samsung ever put on a smartphone.

The iPhone XR runs on the latest iOS 12, unlike Samsung’s software, isn’t a radical redesign of what was already available. Previous or current iPhone users will easily find their way around, and those new to iOS should get on alright.
