Reliance Jio Infocomm has recently launched its first product, a messaging app called Jio chat, on iOS and Android smartphones as the Mukesh Ambani-owned telecom operator builds up to its high-speed network launch, widely expected later this year.Jio Chat is the first product for consumption from the telco that has so far invested over 70,000 crore in its yet-to-be-launched 4G service. Following Jio Chat closely are health monitoring and television channels apps. Thereafter, the company is planning an app in finance and e-commerce.

Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio Infocomm is expected to launch its voice-plus-data mobile services in five cities-- New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Nagpur-- by June, according to a report by Livemint.

After launching services in these five cities, the report said that Reliance Jio could then roll it services out across the country through the rest of 2015. "More citiesthose where 90% of the infrastructure is readycould be added to the list," the report said, citing a company official.

As per the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) guidelines, a telecom company must roll out services across 90% of the metros where it has won spectrum in an auction and 50% of rural areas within five years of receiving spectrum.

According to Reliance Jio spokesperson 2015 will see the phased launch of Reliance Jio across India. The telco is planning to start services in 900 towns initially, according to RIL's 2014-15 annual report.

Reliance Jio possesses pan-India 20 megahertz (MHz) under the 2,300MHz broadband wireless access spectrum in 22 circles and 5-7MHz spectrum under the 1,800MHz band in 14 circles.

The report also added that Reliance Jio is ready with its wireless offering and has used Samsung mobile devices for the same.
