Hyderabad: A day after the joint team of irrigation, GHMC and revenue officials surveyed Thammidi Kunta Lake and decided to demolish parts of the building of Nagarjuna Convention Centre (NCC) which was constructed by encroaching on the lake bed, the management of the Centre on Sunday allegedly erased the markings. The Centre belongs to Telugu superstar Nagarjuna.
As the GHMC officials came to know about it, they have decided to speed up the process of serving demolition notice to the centre. According to the officials, the GHMC would be serving notices on Monday and would also take up the demolition work by Wednesday or Thursday.
The management, on the other hand, alleges that the T government was resorting to sort of vendetta. They said that even SOUL (Save Our Urban Lakes) had questioned the need for the GHMC to conduct the survey for a second time within a span of five months.
They said as per the cadastral map dated January 26, 2014, the FTL demarcated by Aarvee Associates (officially appointed to conduct the survey) said that the FTL area was 25.5 acres. But the FTL survey on June 28 showed it as 29.24 acres.
SOUL’s convenor, Lubna Sarwath, demanded that since discrepancies had arisen the GHMC should revise all the 335 FTL maps uploaded on HMDA website and find out what exactly was the FTL of this controversial lake.
However, the GHMC claims that 1.2 acres of FTL and 2 acres of buffer zone of Thammidi Kunta Lake has been encroached by N Convention Centre. The GHMC, they said, had rejected the application for regularisation in 2009 itself. But the management claims that they have approached the court on the issue and the GHMC cannot take up demolition of the building till the High Court disposes of the case.
