Hyderabad: The Telnagana Rashtra Samithi strongly opposed Union information minister Prakash Javadekar’s peril to cancel the licence of MSOs on the issue of blocking two Telugu TV channels – TV9 and ABN Andhrajyothi to protest against anti-Telangana harangue.

In this milieu, TRS MP Jithender Reddy, who met Mr Javadekar in New Delhi, lodged a counter complaint alleging that MSOs in Andhra Pradesh had stopped telecast of Telangana channels V6 and T-News during the Telangana movement.

He wondered who began the culture of banning the Television channels. He informed the information minister that it was the MSOs of Andhra Pradesh who began with blocking T-News and subsequently V6 during the Telangana movement on the cable network. Freedom of speech applies to all, whether it is Telangana or AP, said Jithender Reddy. He further informed the union minister that while the state government has no role, the MSOs were upset over the offensive and derogatory programme Bullet News telecast by a channel. Asserting he was for freedom of speech in the media, Mr Reddy said the BJP and the TD leaders, who are now demanding lifting of ban by MSOs, should also ask MSOs of Seemandhra to ensure telecast of Telangana channels in AP.

Later, Jithender Reddy said that Javadekar was unaware of blocking of V 6 and T News in Andhra Pradesh and expressed surprise. He was also unaware of burning of the daily Namaste Telangana copies during the Telangana movement.

It is worth recollecting that the MSOs in Telangana state banned the telecasting of TV9 and ABN Andhrajyothi channels indefinitely, following a strong warning by the Chief Minister KCR in the state assembly for telecasting the disparaging programs that humiliate the culture of Telangana.
