Hyderabad: Telangana State government ordered CID inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Indiramma Housing scheme for the poor, launched during the Congress regime between 2004 and 2014.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao took the decision at a review meeting held on Saturday. A GO was immediately issued, handing over the case to the CID.

According to officials, a random survey, which was conducted recently, revealed that Rs 235 crore was misused in 593 villages. This raised serious doubts that the benefits did not reaching the intended and that the funds were misused during the last 10 years.

KCR said his government found that contractors produced Rs 5,500 crore worth bills in 2008-09, but the total number of houses constructed was only 13 lakh. In some cases, official records said houses were constructed on saturation basis in some villages, but not a single house was allotted to the beneficiaries. For instance, records says 45,000 houses in Adilabad, 41,099 in Manthani, 32, 337 in Kodangal and 30,416 houses in Parigi were constructed. During the survey, the officials failed to locate these houses.

Stating that a comprehensive survey would be taken up on the claims of the previous government that it had provided houses to 89.59 lakh families in the State, the CM said that his dream project – a decent two-bed room house for every family – would be implemented only after the details of irregularities were known.
