Hyderabad: In concern with the re-registration of vehicles and the instructions received from the state high court, the Telangana state government on Tuesday submitted before the Hyderabad High Court that the government has not taken any final decision on the matter.
It is evident that on Monday, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar of the state High Court granted one day time to the Telangana state government to clarify on what authority the government has asked the vehicle owners to go for a re-registration. It was also asked to explain about the adding of letters TS to their number plates in place of existing AP. A plea by Rammohan Chowdary, a resident of Hyderabad, was dealt by the Bench as he challenged the GO issued by the government on July 17, asking all the vehicle owners to change their number plates from AP to TS through a process of re-registration. Justice Sengupta on Monday said that if the state government has the power to order the same. And, if so, the state government is asked to show where the power was. The honourable justice wondered which law empowered the state government to do so.
The counsel said that the GO was issued under Section 65 and 212 (1) of the Motor Vehicles Act after the bifurcation of the state and suggestion were sought from the people through the GO to frame the guidelines. The counsel said that the government intended to file the counter affidavit. Justice Sengupta told the petitioner to file his objection and the submissions of the government within a week, on Tuesday.
