Hyderabad: Decentralisation of development being the ‘new mantra’ for Telangana government, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao proposes to promote Warangal as the second capital of the T state.
The Chief minister, who also holds the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA and UD) portfolio, is contemplating to shift some of the departments to the city of temples besides promoting IT and industrial sectors in and around the city of Warangal.
The officials of the state MA and UD department told The Hans India that they had submitted all the official records and documents with regard to the availability of revenue land and the development of Warangal in the last 25 years to the Chief Minister.
Initially, KCR wants to set up an ‘ industrial corridor ‘ on the stretch of 120 km connecting Hyderabad and Warangal. This would be followed by making Warangal a ‘Cotton and Silk’ city. The government hopes to attract huge investments in the textile sector on the lines of Tirupur in Tamil Nadu.
The government feels that Warangal was ideally suited for promotion of textile industries and as a major tourism hub as it is rich in centuries old temples and other historical places. KCR was also favouring shifting the textile and tourism departments to Warangal, the sources said. To achieve this, he is exploring the possibility of creating ‘Greater Warangal’ by merging some villages and towns with the existing Corporation. Sources said that KCR was of the view that once the Warangal city was developed as the second capital, it would emerge as second destination for investments after Hyderabad. This would also help in creating employment potential in that part, officials said.
