Hyderabad: Telangana State Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday agreed to allot 100 acre land to facilitate the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to set up a new unit at Nagarjuna Sagar. The unit would have airstrip too for landing of defence flights.

The Rs 1,600 crore unit would provide employment to a large number of local people, the DRDO officials explained to the Chief Minister at a meeting here. KCR, after a review meeting promised to earmark the land for the DRDO unit.

The Chief Minister also assured the DRDO team that the government would build necessary infrastructure facilities in the area, including providing uninterrupted power and water supply.

“Currently, a centre in Moscow was caters to the needs of India's Defence needs for research. If the DRDO comes up with the unit in Nagarjuna Sagar, it will not only give a boost to India's Defence research, but also help provide assistance for friendly countries in taking up research projects.
