Seeks loan waiver implementation

Jagtial (Karimnagar): Senior Congress leader and Jagtial MLA T Jeevan Reddy on Sunday flayed the TRS government for failing to implement the loan waiver scheme for the benefit of farmers.Speaking to mediapersons here, Jeevan Reddy wondered why the TRS could not provide clarity on loan waiver though more than three months had passed since it assumed power in the State. He demanded that the loan waiver scheme should also be extended to tenant farmers.

The senior Congress leader pointed out that the administration had failed to provide compensation to farmers who suffered crop loss for continuously three years between 2010 and 2013 due to unseasonal rains in Karimnagar district. He said he had brought the issue to the notice of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao when he earlier undertook a tour of the district. He urged the Chief Minister to come to the rescue of farmers.

Jeevan Reddy said the administration sanctioned a compensation of Rs 107 crore to farmers. However, so far only Rs 18 crore was distributed to them. He demanded that immediate measures be taken to disburse the balance amount of Rs 89 crore to farmers.

He said the officials of the revenue and agriculture departments prepared the list of farmers who had suffered crop loss. He demanded that action should be taken against the officials if there were any errors in the list.
