Regonda (Warangal): Specialist doctors from NIMS, Medicity and district on Sunday landed at this remote place to offer free medical services to Chencu tribals at the initiative of Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary.

The initiative taken by the Speaker in organising a ‘mega free medical camp’ pleased the Chenchus. As part of the programme, free medicines and spectacles were distributed to them, besides, top class medical check-up.

Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker said he was pained at the plight of the Chenchu tribals who were so far neglected by successive AP State governments. In order to take quality medical services to the tribals, the camp was organised. After completion of the medical check-up, many tribals found to be suffering from serious ailments were referred to super specialty hospitals and they would be given free treatment, the Speaker said.

Further he asserted that the State government had been according top priority to the welfare of tribals, particularly Chenchus in the district who remained very backward and living in isolation. “Efforts are being made to bring them into mainstream life,” he added.

As part of the efforts, recently the Chenchu families were taken on a tour to the district headquarters where they visited historic and heritage sites like Fort Warangal and Thousand Pillar Temple, reminded Madhusudhana Chary.

Measures to provide basic facilities such as housing, ration cards, medical services and employment opportunities would be taken. In order to ensure effective implementation of such welfare steps, continuous monitoring and coordination at official-level would be ensured. In addition to this, the children of Chenchu families were being taught English language skills. A six months special programme in association with English Language Teachers Association (ELTA) was being conducted for them, the Speaker explained.

The students had been actively learning and picking up the language. A team of the students would be taken to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao after the conclusion of the programme, Madhusudhana Chary informed. The Speaker also distributed portable colour television sets to 75 Chenchu families belonging to Chenchupalli and Bhavsinghpalli. “This would enable them to connect to the outside world and understand it” he pointed out.

Warangal MP Kadiam Srihari, Health and Family Welfare Director Dr P Sambasiva Rao, ITDA ProjectOofficer Sudhakar Rao, NIMS Medical Team Head Dr. Gangadhar and TRS party leaders were present.
