Hyderabad: The City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy emphasised on the importance of ‘community policing’ for controlling crime in the city.

Inaugurating a two-day orientation programme for officers promoted from Constabulary to SI rank at City Armed Reserved (CAR) headquarters on Monday, he said the people must feel a sense of security and safety, when they met a police official. Even though more than 90 percent of people in the society never approached a police station, they had negative perceptions about the behaviour of staff in a police station, he noted.

Mahender Reddy asked his associates to built confidence among denizens, so that 90 percent people would volunteer to help the police in identifying criminals and reducing crime. “Unless we break the image about the rash behaviour of police, we will be doing grave injustice to the people and society, of which we are part of,” the Commissioner said.
