Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has decided to put on hold the probe into the alleged multi-core scam in Indiramma Housing scheme that was launched by the previous Congress government in the united Andhra Pradesh.

KCR ordered the CID probe in the housing scam in July to verify the real beneficiaries of the housing scheme and also to ascertain the ground reality so that the government can launch its dream project of constructing a ‘two- bed room house for the poor in Telangana state.

The findings in the first round investigation covering 150 villages out of 1500 have indicated that about 80 per cent officials of the Housing , Revenue and Panchyat Raj departments were directly or indirectly involved in the embezzlement of the funds meant for the housing scheme for BPL families in the villages. In most of the cases, houses were allotted to ineligible persons and in some cases funds have been misused by not disbursing the money to the beneficiaries.

The officials of the State Housing department told The Hans India that the CID inquiry report has found out that officials from the cadre of Work Inspectors to Divisional Engineers in the districts have been found to be responsible for the misuse of funds in the scheme.

The rough estimate says local politicians in collusion with the corrupt officials swindled over Rs 1000 crore. Stunned over the intensity of the corruption that had crept into the scheme in the last 8 years under the Congress rule, the CID officials submitted a preliminary report to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and sought his advice on the further investigation into the scam.

The investigating authorities are learnt to have explained to the CM the difficulties they were facing in filing charge-sheets against the accused as the number of corrupt officials was huge.

Considering the difficulties being faced by the CID in the investigation, government asked the CID to wait for further instructions.
