Hyderabad: Upgrading the lopsided and faulty drainage system in Hyderabad is likely to cost the Telangana State exchequer Rs 10,000 crore, according to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Rao reviewed the measures to be taken to give a face-lift to Hyderabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Khammam on Tuesday. He held a review meeting with officials and MLAs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Puvvada Ajay Kumar (Congress) and Jalagam Venkat Rao (TRS) at the Secretariat. He observed even a shower results in water logging even in front of Governor’s residence at Raj Bhavan, CM’s camp office, Begumpet and Assembly during rainy season. Many storm water drains have been encroached upon, making matters worse in the state capital, he rued. Pointing out that similar problems persist even in Karimnagar, Warangal, Nizamabad and Khammam, the CM added that his government would give high priority to improving basic amenities and infrastructural facilities in various cities in the state.

According to KCR, Warangal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Khammam would witness rapid development in the near future. He said he would visit these places personally after the budget session to explore ways to develop them as ‘Smart Cities.’ Improvement of roads and drainage system, providing high quality education and health facilities would be on top of the government agenda, he said.
