The officials of State Energy department said that the neighbouring state in principle accepted the request for the supply of 1000 mw power in view of severe power crisis loomed large in the T state. However, the cost of power per unit was yet to be decided. The energy officials of the two states would enter into a MoU in this regard after the final approval of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Sources said that laying of separate lines between the two states and connecting the grid network would also be finalised once the two states entered into a power supply agreement. The state government was serious in strengthening the grid network in view of the increasing demand for power in the next three years. The power demand and supply has been increased in Telangana due to various reasons including rising temperatures in the recent past. Officials said at present the total power demand was 150 MU (Million Units) as against the supply of only 125 MU.

To fill the gap between power demand and supply, the government purchased power at higher cost from private generators in the last one month. So far, the government spent over Rs 200 crore to buy 400 MU of power.
