Police detain student for immolation bid

Hyderabad: An Osmania University student attempted suicide by pouring petrol over his body during a dharna programme organised by students inside the campus on Saturday. Believed as the fallout between the students of new PG and NRSH hostels over Mess provision for non-boarders, scores of students held dharna by blocking the main road. The other night, a group of students (non-boarders) allegedly bet up few students objecting to their presence in the Mess.
They took up the case with the Registrar, who failed to impress on them. Later they made a sit-in demanding protection to the students from so-called 'outsiders'. Amidst the chaos, one of the students, Kumar Yadav, poured petrol over his body and tried to set ablaze. The police, who were trying to control the situation, immediately took the student into custody and started the investigation.
