Hyderabad: Taken aback by the strong protest that appears to be brewing among the opposition party MLAs, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Friday decided to agree for a short duration discussion on the plight of farmers and the power shortage. According to KCR, the discussion will be taken up on Monday at 4 pm.

It may be mentioned here that all the opposition parties had created pandemonium in the Assembly on Friday morning leading to suspension of 10 T TDP legislators.

The Chief Minister even had to come to the rescue of the Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy’s reported comments that the farmers were committing suicides due to their personal problems and not because of debts or power crisis.

Opposition parties including Congress, BJP and TDP demanded the Minister to come to the House and apologise for his alleged comments against farmers. Opposition parties said the Minister's comments have hurt farmer's sentiments.

The CM told the House that Pocharam was a very senior politician with four decades of experience and was also a minister in the past. According to KCR, Pocharam was misquoted and the statement he made was taken out of context by a section of the media. The Chief Minister added that media should not indulge in such "misreporting".

KCR added the Minister was ready to make a statement on the issue. The obstruction of the House by the opposition on the very first day after the presentation of the budget looks like ‘intentional’. He further said it was unfortunate that the Minister was also not allowed to reply the first question on power issue during the question hour by the opposition which stalled the proceedings.

KCR said Telangana was denied 1,146 MW of power share from AP power generation projects. He said he knew the intensity of the issue of power crisis and farmers suicides. At the same time it was mandatory that the House should discuss the budget to complete the formality to approve the budget.

His government was ready to debate on every issue raised by the opposition.

Later, Speaker P Madhusudhana Chary announced that all the adjournment motions moved by the Congress, TDP, BJP, CPI, CPM and MIM were disallowed when the opposition parties demanded for the debate on their motions.
