Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday said that his government had allocated the highest ever budget of Rs 4,000 crore for the disbursement of pensions to all eligible persons this year in the country.
Launching the ambitious pension scheme, Aasara, for old aged, physically challenged and widows at Kothur village in Shadnagar mandal in Mahabubnagar district, Rao pointed out that the previous TDP government had spent only Rs 75 crore and the Congress allocated Rs 1,000 crore for the pension scheme in the united State. In contrast, the TRS government had increased the budget many times, ensuring that every beneficiary would avail of the social security scheme.
Under the scheme, elderly persons and widows would be given Rs 1,000 each monthly, while physically challenged would get Rs 1,500 pension each every month. Instructing the officials to add all the eligible persons in the scheme, the Chief Minister warned stringent action against those misusing the scheme. Stating that ration cards would also be given to all eligible people who failed to submit their applications in the recent drive, KCR said 6 kg rice would be provided under Rs 1-a-kg rice scheme to each person of the families holding white ration cards.
Listing out the welfare and development schemes launched by his government in the last five months, KCR said that drinking water taps would be provided to every household before his five year term was completed. “ If I fail in fulfilling any promise, TRS will not come back to you to seek votes in 2019 election,” he vowed.
The Chief Minister said that his government was implementing the ambitious water grid project which had been taken up at a cost of Rs 35,000 crore. He wanted to see that no woman would have to come to the streets to fill empty water pots.
Reiterating that the Telangana state would become a power surplus in three years, he said 1000 mw power would be supplied Chhattisgarh to meet the demand in future. Announcing slew of sops for the backward Mahabubnagar district, he said the long pending and prestigious Palamuru Lift Irrigation project would be taken up on a war footing to quench the thirst of the people in Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts. He would lay foundation stone for the project in two weeks. The road network on a stretch of 1,880 km under the R&B department and 5,000 km under the Panchayat Raj department would be developed in five months in the districts.
