Hyderabad: Congress party leaders are of the strong opinion that if the State government does not show any dynamism and diplomacy in overcoming the teething problems of the new state, history might repeat itself and there would be a demand for re-merger with Andhra Pradesh.
This talk emanated in the lobbies of the state Assembly on Friday when senior Telangana leaders like K Jana Reddy, MLA J Geeta Reddy and Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao met their old buddy J C Diwakar Reddy.
These leaders felt that the government was groping in darkness and was adopting confrontationist attitude on several issues instead of resolving them through talks. If things do not change there is every possibility for people to think that they were better off in the united Andhra Pradesh. Reacting to it, TDP MP from Anantapur Diwakar Reddy said that people of the state were getting disillusioned by the new government though it is just five months old and he said he foresees repetition of 1956 incident when Telugu state was formed on linguistic basis. He said sensing the differences that the two Telugu-speaking states were facing in the post bifurcation scenario, the people of Rayalaseema had mooted the idea of Rayala Telangana.
If that had been accepted, the water problems between the states would not have arisen.
Clubbing Kurnool and Anantapur districts with Telangana would have solved problems to a major extent, he felt.
Geeta Reddy felt that failure of Congress to cash in on the granting of separate T state and anti-incumbency factor led to severe drubbing in the last general election. Hanumanth Rao, who refused to be dragged into the issue, felt that Congress would bounce back in Telangana as it did in 1979 after it was routed in the post emergency scenario.
