Warangal: A massive 32-hour ‘Poru Deeksha’ launched here on Monday by the BJP urban wing protesting against State government’s apathy in ensuring urban development and public welfare.

As many as 125 leaders and workers of the party participated in the programme held near Warangal Municipal Corporation. Speaking on the occasion, Indrasena Reddy alleged that the State government was not spending Central funds released for various developmental works in a proper manner. As a result, huge amounts of funds being released for improving urban infrastructure were getting dissipated.

Similarly, the TRS government had made tall claims about increasing pension for senior citizens, widows and physically challenged persons. In reality, the State government was not contributing funds from its exchequer but was making use of Central funds for the purpose.

Indrasena Reddy demanded that the TRS government release a ‘white paper’ with the details of funds released by the Centre for urban development and pensions, the State’s share and how they were being spent. He further alleged that in the name of integrated household survey the State government was trying to cut down the number of persons receiving social security pensions. He objected to the reduction of beneficiaries for social security pensions by the State government.

Senior leader Rajeshwar Rao said there was a wide gap between the words and action in the State government’s functioning. Cabinet Ministers were confining themselves to issuing statements. But they had failed to ensure proper distribution of pensions and implementation of welfare schemes.

The party leaders also expressed serious concern over the deplorable state of roads, lack of drainage system and water supply at district headquarters.

A massive protest rally was also taken out by the BJP leaders on the occasion.
