Khammam: District Collector Dr K Ilambarithi instructed municipal officials and irrigation engineers on Thursday to take measures for preventing flow of drainage water into Lakaram lake. He said that people are falling sick because of polluted water in the lake as the drainage water was flowing into it. He ordered for construction of a separate canal for drainage water.

Ilambarithi along with Municipal Commissioner Venu Manohar has inspected Lakaram lake in Khammam city. He has examined lake’s catchment area behind Tummalagadda mosque. He gave instructions to Deputy Executive Engineer Swaroopa Rani to clean up drainage water and clear water hyacinth from the lake. He also instructed officials concerned to demolish illegal constructions located within the boundaries of lake.

Later, District Collector has inspected the lake, Parshibandham canal and irrigation canal near Satyanarayanapuram. He has identified that most part of canal lands were encroached and asked the officials to demark them. He informed officials of Engineering Department to take up renovation of canals. He also inspected Parshibandham canal near Mamata Medical College. He told the officials to remove illegal constructions on canal land and ensure water from canal reached to Lakaram lake.

Dr. Ilambarithi asked the officials of Irrigation Department to clean and beautify Lakaram lake with the funds provided by Khammam Municipal Corporation.

Ilambarithi has instructed officials of Irrigation and Revenue Departments to take up lake survey. He informed officials to take measures for removal of illegal constructions within boundaries of the lake. Assistant town planning official Srinivas and other officials were present.
