Hyderabad: Two children were killed and a five-year-old boy sustained more than 60 per cent burn injuries when an explosion took place at Borabanda basti of Jawahar Nagar in Yousufguda area on Friday morning. The victims have been identified as Teerthaveni, 7, and Narsamma, 13, and the injured as Yogi. The injured boy Yogi, brother of one of the victims Teerthaveni, has been rushed to the Osmania General Hospital. Later, the boy was shifted to NIMS for specialist’s treatment.
Parents of the two deceased are migrant labourers from Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. The incident took place when the parents of both the victims had gone for their work. On hearing the blast, the neighbours rushed to the spot and found Teerthaveni soaked in a pool of blood and lying on the floor and wriggling, blood splattered all over the walls around.
The other two kids were also found to be profusely bleeding. Neighbours immediately called in the 108 ambulance service and the injured kids were rushed to the hospital. Teerthaveni and Narsamma succumbed to their injuries whereas condition of Yogi is stated to be critical, the attending doctors said. Later, the local inspector Venkata Reddy said, “Kerosene tins were found near the blast site. The children were reportedly preparing some food when the blast occurred.”
The police along with clues team, dog squad and forensic experts arrived at the scene of incident for investigation. It is suspected that the blast might have occurred from underneath a boulder due to some pressure.
Though it is suspected that some gelatin sticks might have been the root cause of the blast, the exact cause could be ascertained only after a thorough check, DCP (W) A Venkateshwara Rao said. Meanwhile, Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath visited the accident spot.
