Digvijay Singh urges Telangana Congress leaders to strive to revive the party
Hyderabad: Telangana Congress in-charge and AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh on Tuesday pulled up the party senior leaders including TPCC president P Lakshmaiah and working president N Uttam Kumar Reddy over their failure in stopping migration of Congress MLAs, MLCs and leaders to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
Digvijay along with AICC (SC Cell) chairman K Raju and AICC secretary R Kuntia held TPCC coordination committee meeting at the party head office, Gandhi Bhavan, here on Tuesday. Senior leaders K Jana Reddy, J Geeta Reddy, R Damodara Raja Narasimha, D Sridhar Babu and Mohd Ali Shabbir attended the meeting.
In the meeting, the party in-charge is learnt to have taken serious note of the switching loyalties of nine MLCs and three MLAs of the Congress to TRS within four months after 2014 election. Digvijay also was reportedly taken aback when the leaders informed him of the spate of migration of district level leaders and local body representatives to the TRS in the recent months.
He told the leaders it was the responsibility of senior leaders to keep the party cadre intact and shed differences among themselves. The AICC chief wanted all leaders to fight united against the TRS government by raising people’s issues. Digvijay instructed the TPCC chief to prepare a roadmap to launch the party’s mass contact programme from March this year. “Now, the honeymoon is over. Leaders should go to people and expose the failure of the TRS government,” he instructed.
Party sources said the party high command set target to the TPCC in the ensuing GHMC, Warangal and Khammam municipal corporation elections. The leaders were asked to take up a mass campaign against the TRS government and its failure in delivering promises made during elections. In view of the elections for MLCs to graduate and local body constituencies, Digvijay enquired about the aspirants and the winning prospects of the Congress.
As part of strengthening the party in Telangana, Digvijay suggested the TPCC to rope in intellectuals and academics in this endeavour and set up a strong back office with professionals to give feedback and provide vital information to the Congress leaders on people’s issue.
The six teams constituted by the TPCC submitted reports to Digvijay on the TRS government’s failures and waning Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s image. The party’s failure in countering K Chandrashekar Rao was also discussed in the marathon meeting held throughout the day.
