Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Labour, on Saturday, urged Telangana State Chief Minister K Chandrshekar Rao to direct the officials concerned to improve the conditions in the Market Yards. This, he said in a letter to the Chief Minister, was necessary to facilitate hassle-free procurement of agriculture produce in Market Yards.
Dattatreya pointed out that several Market Yards in Telangana State were devoid of adequate facilities for storage of agriculture produce. Further, facilities such as drinking water, lodging facilities for farmers at stay overnight at several yards were absent. The strength of staff was also not adequate at several places.
Further, due to a nexus between traders and lower officials, farmers were forced to sell their produce at lower prices, much less than MSP. This chain should be broken for the benefit of farmers, the Union Minister said. Datatreya further said, “It may be seen that new State of Telangana is suffering from shortage of power and non-availability of water for irrigation in the coming season.
Thus, farmers need to be sensitised in advance about the profitable cropping pattern as per the availability of water and power. Farmers also need to be trained well in advance about the choice of crops on the basis of insight into the demand, so that they get high yield as well as best price to their produce.”
The Union Minister assured the Chief Minister that he was doing his best to get additional power from the surplus central pool to the State of Telangana. Apart from this, he was in constant touch with the Ministers of Finance, Agriculture, Textiles and Coal regarding various other developmental issues concerning the overall development of the State of Telangana, he said.
