New Delhi: The TRS MPs in the Lok Sabha demanded the BJP government to take immediate steps to bifurcate the Andhra Pradesh High Court for the newly-created Telangana State and for the residuary Andhra Pradesh.

TRS parliamentary party leader A Jitender Reddy informed the House that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had met the Prime Minister Narendra Modi three times and reminded him to bifurcate the High Court. Jitender Reddy wanted to know why the Centre is dilly-dallying over the matter.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu tried to defend the government by saying that it is taking all the steps and the Law Ministry is acting on this to expedite the matter. He acknowledged that the issue is sensitive but the government is working to take steps towards bifurcating of the High Court.

Vinod Kumar, TRS MP also raised the issue in the Lok Sabha and wanted to know why the Government is delaying to bifurcate the High Court for both the states. He also wanted to know why the Telangana State government has agreed to have the two courts in the same premises on the lines of legislative and administrative buildings in Hyderabad. He had also written a letter to the Union Law Minister Sadanand Gowda to this effect.

The TRS MPs insist that the High Court should be bifurcated because there is an urgency to appoint new judges for the vacancies at the subordinate judiciary. There are 57 vacancies out of 147 district judges and 23 vacancies out of 98 senior civil judges which the state says can only be recruited when the AP High Court is bifurcated.

For bifurcation of the High Court, the AP Government and the High Court of Judicature in Hyderabad has to initiate the process. The Centre maintains that it has asked the both the stakeholders to initiate the process but it is yet to get a respond on this issue.
