Hyderabad: The Telangana Legislative Council on Tuesday witnessed acrimony when TDP member Arikela Narsa Reddy made an allegedly derogatory comment against women. During reply to a question related to settlement of dispute between AP and Telangana over the Sileru hydel power project, Narsa Reddy questioned the TRS government as to why it was not making efforts to improve power situation, whereas the AP government was doing its best.

The TDP member remarked, "Why you are silent when it comes to interests of Telangana? When AP is making all out efforts, can we afford to stay at home wearing bangles?" TRS member Bhanuprasad raised an objection saying, Narsa Reddy's remarks was derogatory and an insult to women and he recalled that the International women's day was celebrated only a couple of days ago.

Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said the three hydel projects of Lower Sileru, Upper Sileru and Donkarayi projects have a combined capacity of 725 MW and cost of power produced is also very cheap, pegged at 44 paise per unit. Harish Rao said there is no need for "giving applications and making prayers" to AP over the sale of power to Telangana as the AP was obliged to give power to Telangana.
