Hyderabad: Justice Vilas V Afzulpurkar of the High Court at Hyderabad on Wednesday issued interim directions to the Telangana State government not to insist that Auto Rickshaw dealers sell vehicles as per the maximum retail price fixed by a four member committee constituted by it for the purpose. The judge opined prima facie the government has no power to fix MRP. He posted the case to March 19.

The judge was dealing with a writ plea filed by Ramcor Marketing (Pvt) Ltd challenging a letter issued by the Principal Secretary Transport Department appointing a committee to fix MRP to sell 8,728 auto rickshaws in GHMC limits in accordance with GO Ms No 14 issued on November 28 last year. It was contended by the petitioner that the said action was completely without jurisdiction and that the State government had no power to fix the market price of auto rickshaws.
