Cong MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy accuses Agriculture Minister of ignoring his questions

Hyderabad: An argument ensued between Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy over the issue of rescheduling of crop loans to farmers, after the latter alleged that the Minister was skipping answer to his direct questions.

During the question hour in the Legislative Council, Sudhakar Reddy held that the government had failed to reschedule crop loans to thousands of farmers due to lack of e-Pahanies. He also alleged due to lack of staff, ill-informed ryots were facing hardships for applying for rescheduling.

The Minister said that in districts farmers were availing services directly and the bank manager was given authority to forward the application. He informed that e-Pahanies or manual pahanies were not required for rescheduling for the crop loans. According to the Minister, the MLC was perhaps seeking answer on ‘renewals’. He said 36 lakhs of people were being benefitted, with Rs 17,000 crores due to loan waiver, while the Congress government could only provide Rs 3,318 crore during Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s time. For ‘renewals’ 36,523 farmers were benefitted with Rs 16,661 crore, he said.

Responding to this, the leader of Opposition in the council D Srinivas asked the Minister not to compare the figures with that of Congress’, as the Congress government spent Rs 8 lakh crore for loan waiver throughout the country, depending on the requirement. To this, Minister said that the Congress had only ‘over dues’. In his reaction, Sudhakar Reddy asked the Minister to understand the spirit of the question posed to him, but the Minister failed to satisfy him till end.
