Medak: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government in the State is making deft political moves to wrest control of the District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB) under the guidance of the Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao. The TRS party has tabled a no-confidence motion against the present DCCB Chairman M Jaipal Reddy of the Congress, which would be taken up on Thursday. The party leaders alleged that Jaipal Reddy was misusing the funds of DCCB for his personal purposes.
The Vice-Chairman Cheeta Devender Reddy and 15 directors of the bank gave a notice expressing lack of confidence in Jaipal Reddy 15 days ago to District Collector Rahul Bojja. On the basis of the notice, the Collector fixed March 26 for voting on the no-confidence motion. The Congress is making all out efforts to defeat the motion. Leaders of the Congress and the TRS are waiting for the result with bated breath.
Two years ago, the Congress party won all the seats in the district in the undivided State of Andhra Pradesh in the DCCB elections and bagged the Chairman’s post. Among the posts of 21 directors, elections were held for 20 posts and excepting in one or two constituencies, the Congress won majority of the posts and elected Jaipal Reddy, son of the late Congress leader M Baga Reddy, as the DCCB Chairman while C Devender Reddy from the primary agricultural credit society (PACS) of Kondapak mandal was elected as Vice-Chairman.
However, with the TRS winning in eight Assembly constituencies out of the 10 in the last year’s general elections and K Chandrashekar Rao, winning from the Gajwel constituency and becoming the Chief Minister, another important TRS leader and his nephew T Harish Rao becoming a Minister and Padma Devender Reddy becoming the Deputy Speaker, the party in the district was strengthened to a great extent.
After the formation of the TRS government in the State, several Congress leaders and 14 DCCB directors, including the Vice-Chairman Devender Reddy, switched loyalties to the TRS shooting up its numerical strength. The directors enjoyed their holidays in Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Ooty and other areas and returned to Sangareddy. Even if one of the directors fails to take part in the no-confidence motion, it would be defeated.
In order to thwart the no-confidence motion, former Minister J Geeta Reddy and Narayankhed MLA P Krishna Reddy were leaving no stone unturned to lure the directors to their side and get the motion defeated. However, DCCB Chairman M Jaipal Reddy exuded confidence that the no-confidence motion, instigated by the TRS, would be defeated on Thursday. Criticising the TRS for making baseless allegations against him, he said that he would quit if the charges were proved. He alleged that the TRS party was pumping money to bribe the directors of DCCB to vote against him and also threatening them with dire consequences if they failed to do so.
