On Monday, Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited (TSGenco) has awarded the Telangana -owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (Bhel) an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) order for setting up a 4 x 270 MW thermal power plant at Manuguru in Khammam district for an estimated cost of Rs 5,000 crore.

With both Bhel and TSGenco setting up teams to accelerate clearances and completion of the project, the company informed that the project is targeted to be commissioned in 24 months on a fast-track basis. The project includes engineering, design, manufacture, construction, supply, erection, commissioning of 4 x 270 MW thermal units and testing.

Bhel will be utilizing its in-house developed fuel flexible boiler in the proposed power plants, to overcome the current uncertainty of coal supply. The equipment is to be manufactured at Bhel's Hyderabad, Trichy, Haridwar, Ranipet, Bhopal, Bangalore and Jhansi plants as the company's power sector (western region) is responsible for civil works and erection/commissioning of the equipment.

Earlier, in December, 2014, TSGenco had placed an order for Bhel worth Rs 3,810 crore to set up Telangana's first supercritical thermal power plant of 800 MW rating [EPC basis] at Kothagudem.
