Heavy rain lashes city; 12 hurt

Hyderabad: Twelve persons sustained injuries due to the heavy downpour and gales that struck the city for an hour on Friday. The incident took place at Hafizbaba Nagar colony in Kanchanbag when the metal roof sheets fell on them at a building which was under construction. Heavy rain with gales lashed at several places in the city including BN Reddy Nagar, Meerpet, Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Hayathnagar, Nagole, Uppal, Habsiguda, Mallapur, Tarnaka, Osmania University, Lalaguda, ECIL, Kapra, Sainikpuri and Cherlapally areas. The rain lasted for about one hour and water on the roads made it difficult for the vehicles to move. Due to this unexpected heavy rain, motorists got stuck in heavy traffic maze.

In ECIL, heavy rain along with gales affected power supply which damaged two transformers and led to falling of three electrical poles. The electricity department stopped power supply due to fall of poles and failure of transformers. In Mahabubnagar district, heavy rain lashed Achhampet which drowned the ground nut stocks that were stored in the local market yard.
