Karimnagar: In the wake of recent Suryapet encounter incident, doubts were raised over the shooting skills of the police personnel. While the terrorists could successfully pumped in bullets in the bodies of cops from the district, while police personnel missed their target, leading to death to two cops. Even though, the constables undergo regular shooting practice, but majority of them lack knowledge of handling latest weapons, that also went against them.

Realising it, police department has begun efforts to sharpen the shooting skills of cops and is holding practice sessions for Karimnagar police who are undergoing shooting practice at district police training centre, Yelagandula village, for the last few days, police source said.

A senior police officer, on the condition of anonymity, said that police personnel, who were accustomed to lead smooth life, so were under-prepared shoot their targets if a sudden shoot-out situation arises and opined that it has become more of a necessity to sharpen their shooting skills.

Police officials claim that Karimnagar has become a hotbed for terrorists, in the last one decade since terrorists developed strong links with sympathizers and also established sleeper cells, while cops were busy curbing the activities of Maoists in the zone. Now cops would be strictly monitoring suspected terrorists and their links, with an iron hand.
