Nizamabad: Heavy rains and hailstorms damaged crops in nearly 8450 hectare in the district. The district recorded 36 mm rainfall in the last two days. Loss in terms of damage to paddy, maize, sesame, jowar, bajra, sunflower and horticulture crops is estimated at Rs 6 crore.

Paddy crop damaged due to heavy rains in Nizamabad mandal

District Joint Director of Agriculture M Narsimha said paddy crop nearly 5,600 hectare was damaged in Nizamabad, Bodhan, Bhirkoor, Kotagir and Balkonda mandals. Sesame in about 870 hectare, maize in 800, jowar in 670 hectare, bajra in 400 hectare and sunflower in 109 hectare was damaged in the district, said the JDA.

Fruits and vegetable crops also suffered huge damage in the district. Mango crop were damaged in nearly 1,100 acres and tomato and other vegetables crops were damaged in large extent of area. The JDA said 16.3 and 19.7 mm rainfall was recorded in the district in the last two days.

Kamareddy mandal recorded a rainfall of 110.4 mm, Tadwai 62.4 mm, Nagireddipet 53.2 mm, Lingampet 40.4 mm and Armoor 40.2 mm, the highest in the district, on Monday.Narsimha said that the Revenue and Agriculture department officials were jointly identifying the areas where crop loss was was 50 per cent and above and preparing reports.
