Hyderabad: Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, accompanied by Union Agriculture Minister Mohanbhai Kundriya and Union Minister of State for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya visited rain-hit districts of Nalgonda, Karimnagar and Nizamabad on Wednesday to assess the damage caused to standing crops.Venkaiah Naidu along with Kundriya interacted with farmers at Revanapally village, Vattupally, Anajpur, Jampally others in Nalgonda District.

The Union Ministers also visited mango orchards. They suffered extensive loss due to the untimely rains that lashed major parts of Telangana during the last four days. The Union Minister assured the farmers of all help from the Centre and State governments and added that they would compensate immediately to all those who had suffered crop loss. He told reporters Shivareddygudem village under Pochampally mandal that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken some key decisions for the welfare of farming fraternity like increasing the compensation.

"We told them that the Centre would stand by them. PM is keen that the farmers are helped and I told them about the recent hike in compensation. Now even 33 per cent damage is eligible for compensation and they (farmers) are happy," Naidu told PTI after the visit. He also announced that the Union Government would extend all support to State government to cleanse river Musi and also to bring more area under cultivation. BJP State President G Kishan Reddy and Bhongir MP Bura Narasaiah Goud accompanied the Union Ministers.

Dattatreya visits Karimnagar

Dattatreya arrived at Karimnagar to inspect the damaged crops in the district. the Union Minister reviewed the situation with the Collector Neetu Kumar Prasad.He told reporters that the Centre had enhanced compensation for the farmers suffering huge loss on account of untimely rains and floods. He said that earlier, crops damaged to the extent of 50 per cent alone were eligible for compensation.

But, now the same had been relaxed and crop that was found to be damaged to the extent of 33 per cent too would get compensation. The Minister along with BJP MLA Ramachandra Reddy toured villages in Jagtial and Maidpalli mandals in the district, where crops have suffered extensive damage due to untimely rains.Crops in one lakh acres had been destroyed due to heavy rains in Telangana district whereas in Karimnagar district itself, crops in 20,000 hectares were damaged, Dattatreya said.
