Nizamabad: The district authorities said that the Nizamabad district would soon become ‘open defecation free’ district. Under Swachh Bharat programme, the government would construct about one lakh latrines in 235 villages to keep the environment clean and hygienic. District Collector D. Ronald Rose on Saturday conducted a review meeting on ‘Swachh Bharat’ with DWMA, DRDA and Panchayati Raj officials.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said the district authorities decided that keep Nizamabad as ‘Open Defecation Free District. Under this programme the government should construct about one lakh latrines in 235 villages in the first phase. The DWMA should construct the 40,000 latrines with pre-fabricated technology and balance 60,000 should be constructed under the supervision of RWS department, the collector added.
The Collector said, under this project first they choose three villages as pilot project and conduct survey; they are Kamareddy mandal Devunipalli, Domakonda Mandal lIngampalli, Nizamabad Mandal Mallaram. He said they had already began the survey at Devunipalli village and works are at grounding stage. In Lingampalli, they should construct 205 latrines, in which 50 under RWS and 155 under DRDA, the Collector added.
