Nizamabad: TRS MP and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s daughter Kavitha on Monday made a startling statement that “if Prime Minister Narendra Modi invites us, we will consider joining the Union Cabinet.” This remark of Kavitha has given a fillip to speculations in political circles that Kavitha would be inducted into the Union Cabinet when Modi decides to reshuffle his Cabinet. In the past too speculation was rife that Kavitha was keen to join the Union Cabinet.
This gained credence when the Prime Minister invited her to be one of the Ambassadors for promoting Swachh Bharat programme. However, it remains to be seen how the state BJP would react to this move in case Modi decides to join hands with the TRS. It is a known fact that a section of state BJP is strongly opposed to have any kind of tie up with the TRS. They feel that the BJP has the potential to grow into a major political force by 2019.
But another section in the BJP has been going soft on TRS. Political circles here claim that in case the NDA government invites the TRS to join the government at the Centre, the TRS will accommodate at least two of the BJP members in the state Cabinet and this includes state BJP president G Kishan Reddy and floor leader K Laxman.
Analysts feel that while the TRS may be willing to join the NDA, the question is will the BJP leadership sever ties with the TDP in Andhra Pradesh because any alliance with the TRS is bound to have impact on the relationship between the TDP and the BJP. The TDP is an alliance partner in the NDA government at the Centre. Political circles claim that the meeting between AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and BJP national president Amit Shah had on Monday took stock of the remarks of Kavitha.
While not ruling out the possibility of an alliance between the BJP and the TRS in the near future, analysts point out that KCR has of late been adopting a softer attitude towards the NDA. He has not only supported NITI Aayog but also taken up Swacch Hyderabad programme on a large scale.
It may be mentioned here that in the initial stages, KCR had not given enough importance to this programme. Massive Swacch Hyderabad programme is being seen as a big step by the TRS in its bid to move closer to the BJP.
