Hyderabad: As part of a major expansion of public transport system in the city and to promote tourism as a major industry, the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) is planning to introduce ‘monorail’ around Hussain Sagar lake and the world famous ‘London Eye’ replica near KBR Park in Banjara Hills. The estimated budget of both these innovative and challenging projects would be Rs 350 crore.

According to TSTDC chairman Pervaram Ramulu, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had already announced his intentions to make the sprawling Hussain Sagar stretch as the hub of tourism activity in the near future. Apart from adorning the area with dozens of skyscrapers, his vision is to erect the world’s tallest tower near Hussain Sagar.

Once these projects take shape, tourists from not only the state but also abroad would be making a beeline to catch a glimpse of architectural wonders. Also, with TRS government according top priority to cleanse the highly polluted Hussain Sagar, tourists would be thronging the place to see the transformation and enjoy the changed environs.

However, unlike regular monorail constructions seen around the world, this would not be an elevated one. It would be built around the boundary of the lake and mostly along the ground. According to Pervaram Ramulu, the monorail would pass through Boats Club, Sanjeevaiah Park, Necklace Road, Lumbini Park as well as the Tank Bund stretch. On the bund stretch there is a possibility of providing cantilever support.

The length of the route will be around 7 to 8 km and the estimated cost of this project would be about Rs 200 crore
London Eye replica: London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel built on the famous South Bank of Thames River in London. This is much like usual ‘rangula ratnam’ seen in fairs and exhibitions organised locally, but it is highly sophisticated and massive in size and made safe with closed capsules.

The giant wheel will have 32 sealed and air-conditioned oval shaped passenger capsules with each having a capacity to carry 25 people.Passengers boarding London Wheel are free to walk around inside the capsule, though seating is provided. Singapore and Las Vegas in the US have built London Eye replicas in the last decade and now TSTDC is planning to introduce this state-of-the art ride here in Hyderabad.

The sprawling KBR Park in Banjara Hills has been zeroed in as the area for this challenging construction. Apart from a giant wheel, this facility needs massive parking space, informed the tourism authorities. The cost of this project is estimated to be Rs 150 crore.
