New Delhi: BJP state president G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday admitted that the NOTA-choice votes in the election to the Telangana Legislative Council had been cast by the party members. However, he said, it was done so out of ignorance. The BJP MLAs cast their first preference votes in favour of the TDP candidate, he said adding, “Our MLAS were not aware of the rules.
It was not known to them that the NOTA would nullify the first preference votes too.” He felt a proper debate was needed in this regard. Ruling out any foul play on their part in the elections, he said Revanth Reddy's incident had not triggered it as was being speculated in some quarters. It did not call for a review of the relations with the TDP.
However, the same would be brought to the notice of the party’s central leadership, he added.Referring to Revanth episode, he said his party did not approve of the act. But Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao himself was responsible for the decadence of values in politics, he added. “KCR has no moral right to field more than three candidates based on his party's strength yet preferred to field five.
The rival MLAs were being lured to join the TRS with incentives and those who refuse were threatened with non-release of developmental funds. He wanted only two parties to exist in the state, one his own and the other the MIM,” he said. Reviewing one-year rule of KCR, Kishan Reddy said the former's priorities were wrong. Initially, the TRS attitude towards the Centre was somewhat hostile but later got softened.
The BJP would not rush into criticising it so soon and would wait and watch its performance over a period. Secondly, the BJP was busy with its organisational work and would take some more time to take on the government unlike the Congress which itself was responsible for the problems of the state.
Kishan Reddy said his party will not ally with the TRS. However, he said, it would certainly cooperate with the State government in the developmental works. Team India consisted of every party and every state and Telangana was no exception, he said, listing the financial devolution made to the government so far by the Centre and the funding given for various projects including power projects.
