Tolerance level amongst us the Indian Citizens is very high. We prefer to suffer silently than making a concerted collaborative effort to ease our lives. The classic case is the traffic and the routes currently operative in the places between Pragati Nagar and Hightech city.
In order to ease the traffic the rail over bridge was built for over 6 years and became operative in the last quarter of 2013. Before building this rail over bridge many IT Professionals suffered silently, significantly during the rainy season when roads were damaged to an unimaginable level particularly at the underpass near Hightech city railway station.
By the time the bridge became operational the traffic increased by 150% or even more, the IT Pros travelling by this bridge have been experiencing snail paced movement on this bridge during office going hours. This problem has now become compounded by the pipeline work being undertaken again at a snail's pace in KPHB. The direct link to the IDL Lake road from Hightech city road is narrowed again at the underpass ahead of Hightech city rly station.
We the learned and those who are technologically advanced as IT Professionals still silently suffer. When the Rail Over Bridge took so much time there were no protests no IT Company made any official protest and demanded the timelines. It was just allowed to happen in our typical Indian manner. The roads were made good later at a pace that is usual. The pipe line works are underway since a year or so and there is no board stating the details of contract, no time line, no contact details of the contractor and the supervising officer, again the people living in that area are another group of silent sufferers. We do not wish to demand what is basically needed even.
Here are the suggestions for immediate implementation:
Allow wrong side drive on the roads and rail over bridge during office going and returning from office hours.
Start the work on another rail over bridge ahead of Hightech city railway station immediately. In a country where among the govt departments the files play office office game, sanctioning an ROB takes years and we must change this and the role of local MLA and MP ; and the Corporator is key in achieving this.
Is it not the high time that the GHMC shall come up with a drive to put up notice boards at each public work that is being carried out in Greater Hyderabad area - to start with - giving the details of:
The work itself and its value
Date of commencement and completion
Name of the Contractor and the contact details of in-charge of the work
Name of the govt officer supervising the work and his contact details
If the date of completion is extended the reason for this and new date of completion.
Project authority for this work and its contact details.
All these details shall also available in the GHMC website as well for the public to contact to give any compliant.
Bangaru Telangana is certainly possible with small improvements in the way we work. I demand that the above proposal be implemented with immediate effect - to start with - for all the public works being carried out in Greater Hyderabad Area. I request the Chief Justice of High Court to consider this as a PIL and direct the appropriate Govt to do the needful immediately. I appeal to the IT Pros to use their precious time to write to GHMC and other such authorities to highlight the pain being experienced due to the absence of civic sense. I also appeal to the IT Companies to use their good offices to influence the local Govt to provide best basic civic amenities at the earliest matching the best work environments that they provide.
