The body of CPI (Maoist) Karimnagar-Khammam-Warangal commander Kodamagundla Vivek (19) alias Raghu, who died in the encounter that took place on Friday, was brought to his home in Suryapet town of Nalgonda district on Sunday where several leaders of people’s organizations paid tributes to the slain Maoist.
Vivek was the younger son of a government teacher, Yogananda Chary and Madhavi, residents of Bhagath Singh Nagar in Suryapet and an active member of Democratic Teachers’ Federation (DTF). As a member of Telangana Vidhyarthi Vedika (TVV), Vivek also participated in Telangana agitation.
He discontinued the five years integrated law course from Pendekanti Law College in Hyderabad where he was enrolled as a student. Speaking to the media here on Sunday after visiting the body of Vivek, revolutionary writer Varavara Rao said that as a law student, Vivek had actively participated in the Telangana agitation.
Three un-armed naxalites, including Vivek were killed in a one-sided firing by the police in the incident, he alleged. Varavara Rao lashed out at Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for following in the footsteps of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu in the matter of suppressing people’s agitations.
The leader of Civil Liberties Committee Raghunath said that fake encounters were still continuing even after formation of Telangana State. A large number of teachers took part in the funeral procession of Vivek.
