Hyderabad: The AICC has decided to form a “shadow cabinet” consisting of senior TPCC leaders. The cabinet will keep tabs on the government and highlight its failures. It will function under the supervision of the TPCC, but will directly report to the AICC. According party insiders, AICC has already identified some of the leaders with high calibre to interpret the government’s style of functioning and report to the High Command the failure of the administration.


The members in the cabinet will be chosen from among the former ministers, legislators and senior leaders who have a good rapport with other leaders and those who can judge the issues without any prejudice. The exercise is intended to earn people’s confidence. The Congress leaders said they were ready with the plan keeping in view the forthcoming GHMC elections.


The leaders, who are likely to be the core members in the shadow cabinet, are former Speaker K R Suresh Reddy, former Deputy Chief Minister C Damodar Raja Narsimha and possibly former minister D Srinivas. This team will directly report to the AICC on the development and failures of the various schemes taken up by the State government.


Based on the suggestions and guidance provided by AICC, the TPCC would plan and organise programmes. “We are optimistic that it would yield good results and help in strengthening the party,” said a leader. Party sources said that Digvijay Singh, who was here on Sunday, gave enough indications that the AICC was seriously considering taking idea forward.


He found the tussle between, two Chief Ministers as an opportunity for the party to strengthen the in both Telangana State and AP, he felt.
