Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) is likely to face a major exodus beginning with the exit of D Srinivas from the party on Thursday. The septuagenarian leader has decided to join the TRS on July 6 in the presence of K Chandrashekar Rao, at Nizamabad.
It appears that the TPCC has reconciled to the fact that there was no way DS, as D Srinivas is popularly known, can be stopped. The decision of the senior Congress leader joining TRS was taken after he met KCR at his camp office on Wednesday. DS is scheduled to address a press conference on Thursday to announce his quitting from the Congress party.
Sources said that DS has been given option to choose either MLC or Rajya Sabha MP post. In the wake of changing political equations, it is said that KCR had offered Deputy Chief Minister post under BC quota to Srinivas in case he opts for MLC seat.
Though on record TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that no one would leave Congress, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh was more forthcoming and said that the former PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana and D Srinivas had enjoyed various important offices in Congress party and were now exhibiting rank opportunism. Interestingly, the TPCC leaders made a last-minute effort to convince DS not to leave the party.
Uttam Kumar Reddy and working president Bhatti Vikramarka tried to meet DS on Tuesday night. But it is learnt that DS asked them to come to his house on Wednesday morning. But by the time they reached his house, DS had left for the CM’s camp office.
Speaking to media, Srinivas said he called on KCR since he was not keeping well. Not ruling out quitting the Congress, DS said that he was holding parleys with his supporters and would decide his political future soon. But by the time they reached his house, DS had left for the CM’s camp office.

Meanwhile, speculation is rife that two more former ministers and senior Congress leaders Danam Nagendar from Hyderabad and P Sudharshan Reddy from Nizamabad district, who have been maintaining close relations with DS in the recent past have decided to cross over to TRS. Unconfirmed reports said that the two leaders had recently met KCR twice.
The other senior leader M Mukesh Goud from Hyderabad was also approached by the TRS leaders. But he is said to have sought some time to take a decision. In all probability, he may join TRS before GHMC election scheduled to be held in December.
