Hyderabad: Eminent religious, political and media personalities, including former Union Ministers, attended the Iftar party hosted by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) at Red Rose Palace here, on Saturday evening.Mohtamim of Jamia Nizamia Moulana Fasiuddin spoke on the importance of Ramzan while Imam of Mecca Masjid Moulana Md Rizwan Qureshi offerred dua and also led Maghrib prayers.
Speaking on the occasion, former Union External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid stressed on promotion of secularism and peaceful co-existence. He said 'Deen' (religion) and 'Duniya' (day-to-day world) were not two separate entities. One needs to find a perfect combination of both 'Deen' and 'Duniya' so as to serve the society in a better manner. Stressing on redefining modern-day politics, he said that the politics should be aimed at serving the common man.
Salman Khurshid praised the secular culture of Hyderabad which has set multiple examples of peaceful co-existence. He also prayed for the development of new State of Telangana. "Hyderabad and Telangana have a unique character and their development means a lot for the entire country. The future of India lies in the development of Telangana," he said.
Former Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy lauded the TPCC for organising the Iftar party to convey the message of peace and brotherhood. Addressing the gathering, TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy reminded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had promised in last Ramzan that he would provide 12% reservation to Muslims by this Ramzan. However, the promise remained unfulfilled, he said.
In his speech, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir thanked different sections of the society for accepting the Iftar invitation. He said Congress is the true secular party which has genuinely worked for the development of Muslims in the country. By providing 4% reservation, the Congress empowered the socially, economically and educationally backward Muslims and as on today, more than one million Muslims benefitted from the Congress scheme.
