Hyderabad: Telangana Auto Drivers JAC, while welcoming the plan to build twenty multi-level flyovers at important junctions in Greater Hyderabad in two-and-a-half years, has demanded that the government also take certain measures to tackle the worsening traffic condition.


Mohd. Amanullah Khan, JAC convenor, alleged that the government had sold away the interests of the travelling public to car manufacturers mainly in order to collect crores of rupees every day by way of life tax for new vehicles. Hence, as a short-term measure to tackle the traffic congestion and frequent traffic jams on city roads, he demanded that the government immediately stop registration of new vehicles of all categories, including auto rickshaws.


Secondly, he suggested that private vehicles may be banned from roads between 9 am and 12 noon and again between 5 pm and 8 pm every day. Alternatively, the government may permit some private cars to ply on one day and the others the next day. Thus, they may be allowed to ply on alternative days, he felt.
