Organises a meeting with SC Commission officials to help Dalit women pour out their tales of woes

Hyderabad: Dalit Stree Shakthi on Friday organised a meeting at Sundarayya Vignan Kendram to highlight to cases of atrocities on Dalit women. The Stree Shakti invited the officials of the Scheduled Caste Commission to hear the tale of atrocities narrated by the women.

The Dalit women, who suffered in as many as 32 cases, attended the meeting. After hearing the painful the women underwent, the officials lashed out at the government for turning a blind eye to the problem. The officials said the self-respect of women and children were undermined. It was painful that political leaders, by not taking action against those harassing the deprived sections of the society, were bringing bad name to the country.

To avoid such things in future, youth should be provided with good education and Buddhism should be adopted instead of Hindhuism. National Convenor, Jhansi launched a scathing attack on the governments’ failure in providing proper compensation and rehabilitation to the victims.

Only four out of 32 cases of atrocities were registered. Though special courts were set up to try the cases of atrocities on Dalits, situation did not improve because of apathy of officials, she said. National Program Manager, Daniel Prakash, said that the officials should take action and punish the guilty. SC Commission Secretary, R Subba Rao, IAS, officials of the Social Welfare Department, Women and Child Welfare Department, State Coordinator, Bhagyalaxmi, and other Zonal leaders were present at the meeting.
