Hyderabad: In what could spell a doom to careers of nearly 6,000 candidates, the engineering and pharmacy seats were not allotted despite exercising their web options in the final phase engineering web counselling. The Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) completed the seat allotment exercise during the final phase of engineering counselling on Saturday.

With no seat allotment even after final phase, a large number of apprehensive students along with their parents thronged the EAMCET camp office here on Saturday. “I got 30,000 rank. In first phase, I gave 30 options and in the final phase 64 options. I thought I would get in CMR College. Despite giving more options, I was not allotted the seat. The officials told me to go for the spot admission,” said Ravikanth N (name changed on request), who came to EAMCET camp office.

While the students said they had given a number of options as per their ranks, the TSCHE officials said the options given by the candidates were not enough to allot seats. A senior official of the TSCHE blamed the students for the chaos. “There was no cap on the number of options to be exercised by the students.

There is large numbers of vacant seats. Why will we not allot seats if candidates exercise their option correctly,” official said. Official further said that there would be no spot admissions. “As per the Supreme Court verdict, the admissions should be completed by July 31. No there is no question of spot admissions. If that has to be done, apex court permission should be sought,” official added.

After final phase of seat allotment, as many as 30,788 engineering and pharmacy seats remained unfilled. A total of 86,805 engineering and pharmacy seats were available, but only 56,017 seats were allotted. There were no takers for 26,695 seats in engineering and 4,093 seats in pharmacy and Pharma D. This year, 91 colleges registered 100 per cent admissions, while seven colleges did not get a single candidate.
