Hyderabad: A BSNL employee Ramesh, who was facing the charge of torturing his 19-year-old daughter Prathyusha, was arrested on Sunday. He was evading arrest for long. The police with the help of a non-government organisation had rescued Prathyusha who was alleged tortured by branding her with hot irons by her father and stepmother. The coupled inflicted “cruelties” on the young girl.

After her rescue, the Telangana State Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, extended all help to the girl and promised to take care of her. Deputy Commissioner of Police (L B Nagar Zone) Tafseer Iqbal told PTI that Prathyusha’s stepmother Shyamala was arrested earlier, but Ramesh was absconding since the incident came to light.

The girl said she was tortured for several months by her parents and even alleged that she was forced to consume acid used toilet cleaning that had resulted in acid burns on her face. Injury marks were also visible on other parts of her body that indicated that she was meted out physical torture, police had earlier said. T

he victim is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital here and her condition was stable, the officer said. The girl has multiple abrasions, cut marks, burns and was suffering from severe respiratory distress, malnutrition and invisible internal injuries, doctors who were treating her, had earlier said.

During probe it was revealed that the girl was tortured by her stepmother and father with an intention to grab her property, police had said. The girl had been staying in an orphanage since 2010 following the death of her mother Sarala. Ramesh married Sarala in 1991 and divorced her in 2003 and the girl was staying with her mother till her death in 2010.

Ramesh brought his daughter back home later in December that year. Following media reports on the incident, a division bench of Hyderabad High Court, had sought full details of the girl and status of the case from the State government. L B Nagar police registered a case on charge of attempt to murder and under other sections of IPC against the victim's father and stepmother.
